On playback my score changes to a slower tempo at a certain spot. How can I remedy this?

Make sure that you have not changed the time from the Play Panel (the value should be 100) but using the specific: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/tempo-0#tempo-marking
Attach the score here (file attachments, below left) helps to understand the problem.

If the score has been imported from MIDI, it possibly contains invisible tempo texts (truely invisible, not just hidden).
In that case add a tempo text, right-click it, "select all similar" and hit Del
