Problem with trying to tie notes
I am facing a problem to tie the c# of the first group of 16th notes with the first one in the second group of 16th notes using the ‘+’.
Nothing happens. Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong here?
(Using MuseScore 1.1 of course)
Joe.

understand you, what you are trying to achieve cannot be achieved in this manner.
I think (?) you are trying to sustain the 1st note for a quarter plus a sixteenth. To achieve this please read http://musescore.org./en/handbook/voices

I'm interpreting it a little differently, but the answer is the same: you'll need to put that C# in a different voice. This isn't a limitation of MuseScore but a basic principle of music notation - notes can only be tied to the very next note in that voice. You've got two intervening notes in that same voice, so musically, tying it to the C# that occurs three notes later just doesn't make sense - those C#'s have to be in a voice to themselves with nothing intervening. Meaning the first C#, if you still want it to start on the second sixteenth of the first beat, will be a dotted eighth preceded by a sixteenth rest.
If you want to indicate that the C# should continue to ring, I have seen an endless slur used.
This is the way I would notate it without using a third voice (I have made some assumptions about the rest of the notes :) )
I achieved this using a slur instead of a tie.

Xavierjazz, Marc and ChurchOrganist thank you very much for your responses.
For the tie : Both Xavierjazz and Marc are right, the correct solution is to add another voice because you cannot tie that c# to the note that occurs the notes later. I should have realized that! ChurchOrganist made a nice suggestion to solve the problem if you still want to let the c# continue to ring without using another voice.
