Left Hand Fingering for guitar Notation

• Apr 3, 2016 - 20:00

I have an odd request. It may be difficult to do, if not undoable. I set up for a 7 string guitar with Traditional and TABS. When inputting L.H. Fingering the numbers are based off of the note in Traditional and when adding them to TABS, they still appear next to the note without the changes I made to Styles>Text>L.H. Fingering. http://puu.sh/o4Phh/4424432cb9.png . What I would like at least on the TABS side of it, is for the fingering distances to be based off of the top TAB line instead of notes. In the first bar is what I could set up for the fingerings to be in the middle of the two staves with adjustments to the text style (based off of Traditional notes). The second is a sloppy version of what I would like. http://puu.sh/o4OYq/86fe859d4b.png .

I think if it's possible it would have to be based on the TAB stave.

Thank You.

Possible, indeed, based on the Tab staff eg.

Considering that fingerings are ordinary text, you can follow this way for achieve the wished result.
First, create fingerings (1,2,3,4, T) as regular text (Ctrl +T, shortcut)
Then, drag and drop (hold on Ctrl + Shift) these fingerings in a custom palette for reuse.

By selecting the numbers of the TAB staff, and by adding these "new" fingerings, the default staff text style will be preserved (size 10, etc.)

If you want a customized style (with a size slightly minor, other alignment, and so on), you have to create a new style in: Style -> Text -> New -> Give a name -> OK
Enter your settings, and Save this style, in: Style ->Save a style
When you create a new score, same location, do: Load a style, etc.

I join an example of a .mss file with some settings (created with and for the 2.0.2 version): LH Middle.mss

Then, enter as usual your "new" fingerings (from the Tab staff). When it's finished, select all these fingerings, and in Inspector (F8), at Text -Style, select your customized style in the dropdown list.

EDIT: Result (based of you score sample): Fingering test.mscz

I created a Template (with the 2.0.3), for electric guitar, I presume, which allows to place the fingerings between the two staves: template fingering.mscz
And a custom fingering palette (the added fingerings, 1,2,3,4,T are the last ones): Fingering.mpal

So, now, you have just to enter fingerings (by selecting the numbers in Tab Staff). When it's finished: select all these fingerings, and in the Inspector, choose the "LH Middle" text style in the dropdown list.

You may increase or not distance between the staves (eg with Shift + drag down the second staff, or in Style -> Page) to improve the position of the fingerings depending the context and your preference.
