iPad MuseScore error help

• Oct 13, 2016 - 22:05

Hi everyone I want to start out by saying thanks for making this program so great!
I use it in a retirement community to teach songs to folks and it works wonderfully!

I have an older iPad on iOSversion: 6.1.3 (Unfortunately updating not an option...due to bricking it.)
I recently purchased SongBook!
As a consequence the latest version of Songbook that would install on my iPad was
Songbook version 1.6

I have a library of pieces I created on the PC with the latest version... And I uploaded them to my google/drive account and normally I can download them an open with Songbook on my dads phone which works but can't get them to open on this older iPad... I would appreciate any help... Perhaps you can recommend an older desktop version that would be compatible with 1.6 on the iPad?
I also don't know if Songbook on the iPad supports perhaps *.XML format that I might be able to convert my files to but I'm not sure on the file format support of this version.

Any help is greatly appreciated as it will create a good deed for older folks to learn simple songs as a direct result of your work.
Many thanks from Colorado!
Nick

Hi Nick, thank you for reaching out and telling us about your problem. You revealed an issue we overlooked with the MuseScore Songbook app for iOS. Basically the app should not be available anymore for iOS 6 and older for various reasons. I'll contact you via email to make sure you get refunded.

Thanks for your reply

That is no resolution for me. I do NOT want a refund I want you to keep my hard earned money for your app and keep it available, it would be a total waist of work to remove it when it already works on a platform that people can use.
Not everything has to be perfect...
If you need to say you do not support it anymore, I understand that as a software company but please do not remove it!
Please tell me which version will correspond with version 1.6 on Ipad

I want it to stay available! Thats why I bought it. I simply want to know how I can get around the issue.
Please understand there is a way to make this work.
This is not an over-site. Please do not remove useful software at the first sign of issue.
If you have to I understand stating, that you no longer support it anymore but that shouldn't be a reason to remove it.

Also you didn't answer my question does it support reading XML files?

Related issue I recently purchased Raspberry Pi3, installed raspbian on it and musescore via cmd line.
It appears to be version 1.3 from the repository and it works great.
code:
sudo apt-get install musescore

Related issue: My files from Google drive which I uploaded from my latest PC version do not open they also give errors. The solution would be to resave my files as XML therefore retaining backwards compatibility with the older programs...

Is there any way to fool the program into accepting newer files... or perhaps changing the file header to the same version? or do you have an easier way?
These are not complex pieces simple quarter-notes & eights...
open to any suggestions...
Thank You

I have an iPod 4 touch with iOS 6.1.6 which cannot be upgraded any more. I have checked that the version of MuseScore Songbook installed on it works fine with MuseScore 1.3 scores but won't load newer scores (2.0.x).

You can try exporting 2.0.x scores to .XML and importing XML using MuseScore 1.3 and saving in the old (1.3) format in a different location and then load those files to your Google Drive. I haven't tested this, so I'm not sure if you won't be getting any errors while importing but maybe it is worth a try.

I believe you can export files in batch mode either through command line or a plugin. The same goes for importing them in the old version.

Also you can have multiple versions of the MuseScore desktop application installed on your PC at the same time.

Many Thanks to You Thomas & m.i.r.o, converting via .XML what was exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for confirming the v1.3 worked with v1.6 on Ipad. Actually problems did occur importing but I believe it to be bugs in the google drive software. I will try hosting them on my sftp server to see if that works. You've all been a great help so many thanks!:)
