Can't enter notes with Yamaha Clavinova keyboard and Midisport uno
HI:
I'm new to this program. I used finale when working with windows and I'm using now Macbook with 10.6.8 OS.
I have a M. audio Uno Midi cable and a Yamaha Clavinova CLP 122-S.
I can't enter notes with Musescore with my keyboard.I'm working on it for ten days. I downloaded the driver in M-audio and in Yamaha as well. When I check in Preferences the output for MIDI is enables with Midi 1x1. It should work but it doesn´t. I think the midi cable is detected but not the keyboard. Is this possible?
I've read a hundred posts about it and I can't find the solution.
Can anybody help me?
Thank you

It may sound obvious, but have you got the cable plugged into your keyboard properly?
In should go into the Out port
Out should go into the In port
If that's not it come back here so we can try to sort you out.

In M audio cables is written "to midi in" and "to midi out" and that's the way to plug it according to manual. That's the way I plugged it when I worked with Finale in Windows. Anyway just in case I tried plugging in the other way and it doesn't work either.
I downloaded M-audio driver and Yamaha driver as well. Both are installed in my Mac. Midi cable is detected but when I press keys on keyboard nothing happens.
Thanks for your help anyway

I hope you've figured it out already, but thought I would tell you that I had the same problem with Musescore not recognizing my MIDI cable at first. It seems that it has to do a lot with the order that you turn on Musescore and then your piano....Turn on your piano after you open Musescore (literally the power on the piano) and see if that doesn't work for you. Otherwise try it the other way around (bring up Musescore after you power on your piano). Try both ways. If that fails, then try to find a video on Youtube for Musescore instructions. There are a lot of them out there. You might very well find one that helps to solve your problem. It is a very sensitive piece of software and has a large learning curve, but I've found the videos on Youtube to be extremely helpful for situations that seem they should be easily solved, but aren't. Follow the video in the exact way it portrays to perform a task, and you should be okay.
Good luck!

Hi again:
I installed Pm defaults and it detects mi Midi cable, so I think the problem is not the cable but the clavinova keyboard. Neither with Garage Band nor with Musescore I can't enter music with the keyboard. It's not detected. I checked on Midi Audio configuration, Pm defaults.. I reinstalled yamaha midi driver....
When I press the keys of my keyboard but no green flash lights as other people says it should happen.
I don't know what else to do.
Thanks for your help anyway

I'm no expert on Macs - in fact I've never used one.
However, you say you have the M-Audio Uno Driver and the Yamaha Midi driver installed.
It should only be necessary for the M-Audio driver to be installed for your Clavinova to talk to your Mac.
Is it possible that you have a clash between the two drivers??

Hi Michael:
Thanks for your answer. I've already thought about that. As I read that Yamaha Midi driver is not useful in models without a usb entry, I uninstalled it and the problem is still there. My MIdi cable is detected ( in Audio Midi config) but when I play the clavinova neither Musescore nor Garage Band detect it.
Thanks anyway
Angel

One final thought.
Is there a software MIDI Thru on the Uno driver you need to enable/disable?
On my MIDIsport interface there is a button you push to toggle between Thru mode and USB mode.
I would check to see whether there is one of these in software you need to change.
Failing that I'm afraid I'm stumped :(
Have you tried the M-AUdio forums? As the problem is also in Garageband it points to a problem either with the interface or the keyboard.

Mi interface is M-Audio Uno and has no button . I'll try M-Audio forums as well. The interface appears in Midi Audio window. It's not grey and seems to be working but when I play notes in the Clavinova nothing happens . I'll try with an old Windows Pc to see if it works.
Thank you all anyway
Hi Angelgago ...
I'm afraid I can't help you a lot with your issue ... The only thing is that I have the same Yamaha CLP 122S and a MAudio Uno MIDI/USB cable as well ... When I read your post I saw that you had no trouble to make it work under Windows ... while precisely, I cannot make it work ... the Uno seems correctly installed but it looks that the Clavinova doesn't transmit any MIDI signal ...
I'd take any piece of advice ... I'm struggling ...
Thanks a lot

Hi:
I'm working with Mac OS. I've just bought a new M-audio Midi controller and it works.
Thank you for your post anyway
Hello,
I have a Clavinova CLP330 and a Roland UM-One cable, so not exactly your same configuration, but here I must do it in this order:
If I switch around or skip any of the above steps, I usually have troubles.

Hi:
I've bought a new controller. I needed it anyway for my laptop.
I'll try your advice for my Clavinova at home and I'll let you know if it works
Thanks a lot
Angel

Six and a half years later, your reply helped me. I’ve been struggling to record to Cubase 4 from my newly acquired CLP-122S via a Gear4Music interface.
That plugging protocol worked. Ie. those midi notes finally started to appear on the rolling track.
Thank you.
My next challenge is to work out why my descending chromatic scale recording contained random loud low notes and in the list editor these notes had no alphabetical note names beside them plus most of the notes weren’t turning off.
Thanks again
Alan.
