How to stretch a line (8va, crescendo, 15ma, etc.) over more than one bar?

I can't seem to be able to stretch/continue a "line" for more than one barline. I always have to add another line (8va, etc.) once I reach the next barline, but it doesn't continue from one bar to the next like it does in regular sheet music. I've double-clicked and stretched, but all it does it reach the end of the bar. It doesn't go to the next one, below it.
Thanks for any help.

Shift-right arrow (and dragging) just continues going right, right off the page. It doesn't continue on the next barline. And all the information I'm finding is just about how to stretch to the end of the bar, but not to continue on the next line. Is there a setting that makes this work? Thanks.

As explained in Line , double click the line, then press Shift+Right arrow and the line extends, note by note or measure by measure depending on type of line, and when it reaches the end of one system, it automatically extends to the next.

One reason you might be having difficulties understanding some of what you readis you have the terminology incorrect A barline is the vertical line that comes at the end of every measure (bar). Every four beats in 4/4 time. I think you are actually talking about going to the next *system*. So if you've been reading about barlines, that might be part of the problem.
