Page break errors?

• Jun 13, 2020 - 23:53

hey folks

score attached - note page 14 and 15 (and it occurs later too) there are only 1 set of staves per page instead of 2 on all other 40 pages.

How can this be corrected?

Change the layout to make those systems take up less vertical space.
For example select the A9 chord symbol of m27 and move it slightly to the left (press left arrow key 5 times).

Or change the overall scaling of the score

but wouldnt all the vertical spacing on all pages be the same if all the notes were mostly inside the staves? on page 7 and 8 for example, they are all the same as the other pages without any extra space added.,

i guess i dont know how the program decides which pages are going to take the whole page up and which wont, especially as i have some later pages that have a lot more notes outside the normal staff ranges.

"mostly" is the keyword. The vertical space of a measure in a staff is not just determined by the notes and their stems; but also by any attached articulations/symbols and (in your case) text.
Each measure on each staff thus gets a minimum height it requires.

After determining which measures fit together on a system (based on minimal measure width) the height of each staff within the system is determined by the largest minimal height of each measure of that staff in that system.
Those heights then add up to the system height.

For each system then, those heights are combined with the minimal system spacing and compared with the available page height.

That is how the program decides which systems go on which page.

After that step, it tries to maximize and distribute the available systems of that page onto the page by allowing the gaps between them to stretch up to the maximum system spacing setting.
See also https://musescore.org/en/handbook/layout-and-formatting#style-page for a nice graphic on these different spacing settings.

Reduce the Bottom Margin from 20mm to 17mm. There comes a point, however, when there is a limit to how much can be printed on one page without clashing/overlap.
