Merging notes

• May 22, 2014 - 22:20

I have attached a score to make it easier to explain what I am looking for.

If you look at the first note in the piano score you will see that I want the pianist to play a d both as part of an arpeggio and make it ring for two beats at the same time.

Now, instead of two separate notes I would like the half note be in the place of the first eight note to make it clear for the pianist that they should leave that key pressed down while playing the other notes.

How do I do that?

Johan

Since you have two voices playing the same note, once you change the notehead as per lasconic, double click on the 2nd voice notehead (the downward pointing half note) to enter edit mode.
Then Ctrl + left arrow several times will nudge the note to overlap the eighth note, the stem will follow when you click somewhere else and exit edit mode.
See:

for controlling more precise note placement.

Regards.
