Hiding empty measures

I want to hide the empty voice measures at the beginning of the score. I won't talk about all the combinations I've tried; however I haven't succeeded in discovering the correct formatting that allows this to be done.

Thanks in advance for helping me figure this out. I'm sure it's something simple. :)

The problem was that the Voice part was not empty in the first system: you had attached the text "RECITATIVE" to the voice staff.

This is the setting you need to hide empty staves (including an empty staff in the first system):
