Cadenza transcribing
I've transcribed this piece of Chopin's Barcarolle Op. 60. In order to match the scan, I adjusted and hid several rests in the cadenza bass. I also increased the tempo to match a performance piece on YouTube. Is there a more elegant way to transcribe this? Is it necessary to hide the rests? Is it necessary to adjust the tempo? Thanks! <3

I think that the speed of the cadenza will vary depending on the preceding tempo set by the conductor for the full orchestra? I usually listen to more than one performance recording before choosing a tempo for a transcription.

I originally transcribed the cadenza by combining several measures. Then I followed the instructions for creating a cadenza by increasing the notes in the measure. Either way, it still leaves the bass line not matching the original scan. Hiding rests seems to be the best option to create a duplicate for HTML.
I listened to several versions of this piece on YouTube and chose the tempo I liked the best.

Slightly elaborate, but this gets your bars playing the same duration:
Count the notes required in your cadenza and create a custom time signature for that bar (eg 37/8).
[Ctrl]-drag the original time signature (12/8) to the bottom stave.
Reset the following bars to 12/8.
Change the tempo to new note count divided by old note count times tempo (eg 37 / 12 * 120 = 370).
Change the tempo back to 120 (or whatever).
Now make the extra time signatures etc. invisible.

underquark, I'd appreciate understanding your wizard abilities better. I created a 37/8 time signature. I dragged the 12/8 from the treble stave to the bass stave. I inserted the 37/8 into the treble stave; however, it also changed the bass stave to 37/8. How do you get the score to hold two time signatures in the same bar?

In your case you are creating a single bar with a new time signature to accommodate all your notes in the upper stave. The time signature change affects both staves so you then apply the local time signature to the lower stave to make it stay in 12/8. You can then enter your notes in the upper stave and still enter notes - and rests - "as normal" in the lower stave. The tempo is then adjusted to keep playback at the same speed as the rest of the piece (I am assuming that this is what is desired).

I've put together, however, it has an audible break between bars 3 and 4. It's supposed to be one fluid sound. Is there another conjure up your sleeve?

Of course there's an audible break: I see a quaver (1/8 note) rest at the start of bar 4. Am I mistaken here?

LOL! No, you're not mistaken, DanielR.
Too many bleary eyed revisions. Forgot to put it back in when it accidentally deleted with previous slur trials. All is good now. I believe the problem was in figuring out the tempo. There are twice as many 1/8 notes in bar 3 than there are in bar 4. The tempo for bar 3 needs to be twice the tempo of bar 4. I also hid a slur between the last note of bar 3 and the first note of bar 4. Still not perfectly fluid. I think I hear a pause, but it may be okay. What do you think? Can it be made better? <3

Your fast tempo marking is not attached to the start of the measure, but on the 2nd beat.
Cut it and paste it back at the start of the measure.

Oh my goodness, jeetee! You are AMAZING! I don't know how you found that. There aren't any anchor lines. And I don't remember misplacing it, but you are so very RIGHT! A true wizard with a master's ear.
It's perfect now. I'm wiping tears because it's been such an ordeal. This piece has been a steep learning curve for me.

Ways to discover this:
1.) My eyes ;-)
2.) Drag the marking with the mouse, it'll show the anchor point during dragging
3.) Click the marking and check the status bar, it shows the positional information.

I don't know why I had it in my brain that there weren't anchors on metronome marks. Sheesh! Gotta laugh at myself. :)
I verified it too. I kept thinking the problem was with all the changing time signatures. Of course, that's a reflection of my stress level with new skills. :/
