Measured (resolved)

• Dec 14, 2021 - 21:52

I download a lead sheet from the community site and when I opened it in the latest version of MS3 the measure count per system was all messed up. Some lines had 1 measure and some 2 and so on, stretching a one page sheet into 1 1/2 pages. I have been unable to adjust the measure count using the techniques in the manual (inserting and deleting breaks and changing the default measures per line). When I use the insert/delete technique it either does nothing or breaks some other line somewhere else in the sheet.
Is there some setting that needs to be set so that a perfectly formatted sheet doesn't go out of whack when opened in MS?
Is there another method for manually setting the measure count? This song starts with a pickup So it needs a different number of measures in the first system to make everything line up.
Thanks
David

If it has a public link on the .com site, then share that; we have enough Pro users here that can inspect it as well.

My guess is that the score was made in an older version of MuseScore than the one you're using and you're seeing some shifts due to different style defaults between both versions.

Possible ways of "fixing" include decreasing stretch on the measures that should be on a single system but aren't and/or slightly reduce the "scaling" value in Page Settings.

It's created with a much older version indeed, but still, if I open it in 3.6.2, it looks almost identical, with four bars per system throughout. At least, it does if I don't check any of the options to change style settings. if I do, then things don't fit, which is;'t surprising - changing fonts and other style setting almost always changes layout. But even if you check all the boxes to convert to the new default font and style settings, a simple Ctrl+A to select all followed by "{" to reduce stretch makes everything fit.

I can pretty much confirm what Marc states, except that I have previously checked the setting to auto-use the new style on import; So I don't get offered that choice.
When opening the score in 3.6.2 I indeed noticed some measures not fitting on their intended systems, due to the Edwin font being wider than the Jazz style fonts.
Luckily, MuseScore applies the new style as an undoable action!

The solution is this:
Immediately after opening the score, issue an "Undo" command (Ctrl/Cmd + Z) and the score will pop right into the intended Jazz style and all fit nicely onto the page again.
