Tablature input on computer keyboard
Is there any way to use the 10 key 'numpad' on my keyboard to input notes in tablature? Right now I can only use the numbers on the main keyboard section.

Different keyboards send different codes, but if yours is set up to use different codes for the numeric keypad vs regular numeric keys, then customize your keyboard shortcuts in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts to add the numeric keys.

I tried your suggestion and successfully added the keyboard presses at the numpad, however, when used in tablature input I get no response from Musescore. It's as if the preferences were never altered.

Which shortcuts did you change? Should be the ones that specifically mention TAB. Works for me if I define, one for say, "Add fret 1 on current string (TAB only)". But I don't have a numeric keyboard to test with - I'm just testing using other keys. You might want to try that also yo see if the problem is the way you're defining the commands or something specific about your numeric keyboard. Oh, also be sure "num lock" is on, if that's a thing.

I had changed only the TAB only entries, but once I realized that the numpad keys changed note duration when I pressed them I realized the problem was a conflict between two shortcuts. Now I'm trying to figure out how to do Shift+9 as a shortcut so I can edit the note duration shortcut omitting the Numpad+9 definition. When I try to put in Shift+9 I get (. Maybe I'll just clear the note duration shortcuts and use the toolbar. Unless you can tell me how to successfully input Shift+9.
Doesn't your keyboard have a Num Lock key? This switches the keypad to numeric mode and sends the same codes as the main keyboard section, (at least it does on Windows).

Yes, of course my keyboard has a numlock key. That is turned on when I am using the numpad as a numeric input device.
Even though almost all apps interpret the numeric codes of the numpad when locked on as the same as the numbers on the main keyboard, the codes are different. MuseScore reads them as different and allows them to be assigned differently from the main numbers on the keyboard.
My problem is that they have already been assigned to note duration and I have to omit that assignment in order to reassign them to TAB input selection.
In doing that the default shortcut assignment for duration needs to be reset to just Shift+9, or what ever number I want. The problem with this is trying to input Shift+9 into the key choice line gets ( (left parentheses) not Shift+9. Haven't figured out how to deal with that one. Maybe I should just use (, maybe that will actually work.

Got it - sorry!
I only use TAB and have changed all the note duration shortcuts to non-numerics:
Whole, Minim, Crotchet, Quaver and Semiquaver
which obviously leaves all the numeric keys available for TAB whilst keeping the note duration shortcuts easy to remember.

Alternatively, Whole, Half, Quarter, Eighth, Sixteenth would work.
