Having issues with new headphones, already tried the FAQ

• Oct 16, 2022 - 02:26

Hello there, I have been having issues getting audio output in MuseScore 3 ever since I got a new set of headphones.
I've been scouring old support threads and the FAQ for at least a week now and have not made any progress.
The headphones use a USB port wireless setup, and work fine for everything else on my laptop.

The details of my issue include:
- No audio feedback for placed notes
- Playback is greyed out
- Synthesizer and Mixer are greyed out
- MuseScore 3 appears on my system's Volume Mixer correctly
- In I/O under preferences there are no options for anything in PortAudio
- JACK Audio Server does nothing either, I'm not using a jack anyway

Before anyone links me the FAQ and says "Use this":
1. The cabling is correct, everything functions properly
2. Synthesizer is disabled
3. Factory reset has been tried more than once, didn't resolve the issue
4. Synthesizer is disabled
5. Both MuseScore and my sound drivers are 64-bit
6. Restarting Audio and MIDI Devices button did not resolve the issue
7. MuseScore does appear in the Windows Volume Mixer
8. I am not on a Mac
9. This is the last thing to do and what I'm doing right now

Program: MuseScore ver 3.6.2.548021803
OS: Windows 10 Pro version 21H1, 64-bit, x64 based processor
Audio Output: SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ Wireless

Help would be appreciated, I'm kind of stumped on what else to try right now.
MuseScore worked perfectly fine with my old headphones, which no longer work.
The only thing that changed is the device, as both my OS and the version of MuseScore
are the same as when I had the previous headphones. My new set doesn't seem to
want to work with MuseScore specifically.

Comments

If I recall correctly your headset also has a microphone and istr that the driver somewhere has a setting to switch from the full profile to "just headphones". I think that the latter setting is what makes it work with MuseScore as well as per this comment.

EDIT: Also check whether exclusive mode is enabled for your new headset in the windows settings. If so, disable it.

I unticked the exclusive mode boxes and the issue resolved.

Hmm...
You followed all 9 steps from the FAQ and stopped at the very next sentence after step 9 which begins: "Note: In case of..."
So, it turns out this FAQ was, in fact, relevant... :-)

Glad it's finally sorted.
