Un-dotted rests in new score in 6/8 time
Hello. I'm using an "Unstable 3.7.0" version of MS and I find that when I create a new score and set the time signature as 6/8, the rests in the empty measures are undotted. And if I select the time signature and look at "Time signature properties...", I see that "Global value" is set to 3/4. And I don't see any way to change that. Am I doing something wrong?
PS I moved to this version because it seemed to be the only way to get the count-note-beats plugin to work (see https://musescore.org/en/node/319258). Is there maybe a more recent stable version that can use count-note-beats?

That plugin just had been ported to Mu4 too
Edit: that won't help you though, as MuseScore 4 needs Windows 10 or later!

I installed version 4 and I get an error message when I try to run it (see attachment).
The other versions I've tried (including the Unstable one you recommended) work fine. Here is my version/system info from Help>About:

That is a MuseScore 4 error! MuseScore 4 needs Windows 10 or later
Windows 7 is out of support (by Microsoft) since more than 2 years now

On the Download page one reads:
"Windows
Download for Windows (64-bit)
Muse Hub requires Windows 10 or higher
MuseScore 64-bit without Muse Hub"
The Download page says "Muse Hub requires Windows 10 or higher" not that MuseScore4 requires Windows 10 or higher. That implies that the "without Muse Hub" version does not need Windows 10.
I know that Windows 7 is out of support, but that doesn't stop me and millions of other people from using it (https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/6/22217052/microsoft-windows-7-109-mill…). If MuseScore 4 will not work at all under Windows 7, I'll just stick with the older version. But the Download site should state clearly that no version of MuseScore 4 will work outside of Windows 10 (just my opinion; I could have saved myself some time and effort).

MuseScore itself also needs Windows 10 or later.
And indeed the installer should catch that already, un addition to being mentioned on the download page.

Well as I say I've had no problems running it with Windows 7 until now, up to and including version 3.7.0. If version 4 needs WIndows 10, it should be stated clearly on the Download page, which it is currently not.
I realize that it may be impossible to make the software backward-compatible (even though Microsoft do it themselves). But it seems a shame to exclude all those 100 million Windows 7 u$ers unless it's absolutely necessary. Just my opinion.

It is neccessary, for the new sound system MuseScore 4 uses (and that is not related to Muse Sounds)

Windows 7 is obsolete! It is dangarous to use, esp. when connected to the internet, as it doesn't receive any security fixes, and since more than 2 years!
Just accept the fact and update to 10, it is still free!

Windows 10 and 11 installs do accept the Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 license keys (provided that it is a valid one)
Please share the score.
I can reproduce, but it is the same in 3.6.2, so no regression, and harmless too, measure properties are 6/8. And indeed the rests are ful measure rests, no dot, that's normal and by design too

Sorry for the delay. I created a score in 6/8, and indeed it is filled with un-dotted whole rests. But in the Bar Properties I see that I'm indeed in 6/8, and as soon as I enter a note the rest of the measure is filled with the appropriate rests, adding up to 6/8 (see Measure 1).
I suppose I understand the logic of using undotted rests in a ternary measure. But to me a "full measure" of 6/8 contains 6 beats, and an undotted rest is divisible by 2, not by 3. In practical terms I find it confusing to be composing along and seeing that each measure ahead of where I am looks like it's in 4/4 - especially since I sometimes change to 4/4 and back again to 6/8. Just my opinion.
Don't worry.
A new score will consist of a series of measures filled with measure rests (no dots). They are centered within the blank measure.
To see a dotted rest, click on one of those measure rests and then, using the note input toolbar, click on the half note followed by the dot.
To check for 6/8. right click on a blank spot in a measure and select 'Measure Properties'. You should see 6/8 as the 'Actual' time signature.
BTW: From where did you download the 3.7.0 version? It's more of a special 'legacy' or 'classic' version of MuseScore 3.

Hello, and thanks for your answer.
I must say that I don't see why a score in 6/8, if it has blank measures (which I realize is specific to composition software), shouldn't have dotted whole rests. To me, a rest with no dot is binary, not ternary - so it can't have 8 beats, unless tuplets are implied. Just my opinion...
To answer your question, I had downloaded that version in order to be able to use the Count Note Beats plug-in (suggested by JoJo Schmitz):

BUT if the plug-in has been integrated into the stable version, I'll try it as soon as possible.

No, the plugin has not been integrated with any rrelaysae and won't.
It just has been ported to Mu4, so is usable with that.
