Musescore 4 won't start on Zorin 12 (Debian)
Please pardon my ignorance in advanced...I have tried to search but not found anything. I installed MuseScore-4.0.2.2(...)-x86_64.Appimage (into /home/.local/bin). The installation appeared to be successful. I have the icon in my apps but when I click on it, nothing happens. The file is executable. in /home/.local/bin the other files are mscore4porable and musescore4portable. Both of those files are executable. What have I failed to do? Thanks!

First, delete that and install the release candidate for 4.1.1 instead (see Announcements forum). Then if you continue to have trouble, try running from the command line and report what you see on the console.

Ok, after downloading 4.1.1 and making the file executable and attempting to run it from the command line in the directory where it's located, the console returns: command not found.

Probably “.” Is not in your path, so type “./“ before the filename.

Ok, got the file to run but it looks like I've got a royal mess on my hands.

Also, I guess I don't know where all the previous version is hiding. There's still a MuseScore icon in my apps, and when I clicked on it, MuseScore 3.6.1 started up again. I thought I deleted it.

It appears your OS is missing some important system libraries. It could be too old - is there an update available? I'm not familiar with Zorin specifically. For Debian in general, I think 11 or later is generally recommended.

Ok, will redo the OS. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
Success! Upgraded to Zorin 16 Pro and install of 4.1.1 went perfectly.
