Can i use musescore as a presentation screen to my students when i play chords notes via MIDI instead of editing screen

• Jun 1, 2024 - 12:28

Hello,
Hope not a stupid question. I want to use musescore as a whiteboard when i play some chords, notes etc. to show my students for teaching purposes. I mean say when i play a chord (via midi, or keyboard) , let the notes remain at the same place on the stave, no cursor movement. Just like shown in the right side of the attached pictures.
Can i do this? . Great software , thanks.

What have you tried so far?
You can hook up your piano keyboard to MuseScore. Show your computer screen via cable through a projector or HDMI to a bigger screen. Use note input mode. I don't know of a way to show your hands playing the notes.

Thank you for answering. I can do all of what you point out (No need the hands :) )
Literally i want that in short. When I play a chord, i want it shows the notes, but when I remove my hands, i want it shows nothing. I want everything in one bar. No running cursor. I don't want to mess around with many notes while teaching something. Hope i could explain with my weak english.

You said: "When I play a chord, i want it shows the notes, but when I remove my hands, i want it shows nothing."

No, there is no way that MuseScore can "know" when you have your hands on the keyboard versus when you do not. And I do not believe that MuseScore can play without displaying the moving cursor.

If you want one bar at a time, it seems like just displaying the music in MuseScore with a page break at each bar would show the bars with very wide separation. If you want a smaller separation than a whole page, use staff spacers or vertical frames (in the Layout palette). Equally, screenshots in a Word or PDF file would give a similar one measure at a time appearance, and would allow you to include commentary before/after each screenshot.

If this isn't what you want, you'll need to provide more detailed description.

I see. Well, one way to do that would be to take individual screenshots of the MuS measures and, in some other application, add them together to make a sort of animation.

On further thought, you can set each measure to have a Page Break (on the Layout palette) and large enough left/right page margins to make it display only a single measure wide. I got it by setting left and right measure to 3.25 in. When I tried to set the margins to 0.5 and 6, the measure flipped from the left to the right side of the page because the odd-number page and even-number page margins are always mirrors.

Here's an example: 20240604 1411-single measure.mscz

Note that the first measure is blank. For some reason, I couldn't get it to display the first measure in the same spot that subsequent measures displayed. Obviously, you'll have to use some other program to record the screen while the score plays: no idea about that.

Hey ! thank you very very much . That made my day shine. You spared time to help me , really appreciated . That works well for me . At least you showed me a way to be worked on it . That's exactly what i want. I know and use other programs to help my job . Thank you for considering.
