Sound fonts have ruined my conputer
I downloaded a piano sound font. Now my musescore not only will not open, but the rest of my computer is running so slow that it's nearly impossible to use effectively

Where did you get the font? I would suggest that it’s the sound font at fault, not MSS. Have you uninstalled it?

I got the font from the musescore page on alternative SF2 files, it's the salamander grand piano soundfont version 3 i believe. Yes, I have completely uninstalled the font.

I just installed this font without issue. Though I didn't do it the odd way the instructions call for. Have you restarted your computer?
