Multiple line body percussion staff

• Mar 24, 2024 - 21:23

I often write scores that include body percussion. I would love to be able to create a multiple line staff that could be performed by one individual (stamp, pat, clap, snap.) Is this possible?

I can't help you, but I want to do much the same. A single staff would do. But where do you find those sounds, and how do you use them?

I'm basically clueless on percussion, but I often need these sounds to add to a choral score.

If You can show us an example of the staff you have in mind, I could think about this possibility. I think your idea is possible to realize. I am working as experiment with Flamenco stuff, and in MuseScore 4.3.2 there exist al least some different "Body sounds". I think at the moment you must create an instrument for every "body sound" , but it is possible to create a new instrument (SoundFont file) called i.e. "Body sound" which would contain the sound of all the instruments you need, something like a "Body sound drum kit". Then you could generate a "custom staff" with all the lines you need. Using this idea, I have programmed my "Concert castanets" instrument, which reproduce most of the different play technics of the "two hands castanets". Another thing is, if the now existing "body sounds" in MuseScore are reasonable good for your purposes.

hallo I have created for you :
1. A template for a 4-lines Staff. You can save this tenplate under .MuseScore4/templates in order yor you to access this template directly when you created a new score.
2. A file Bodypercurssion_test.drm. You must save this file under ./MuseScore4/Styles in order to load it and use in your score.
3. A new example of score with the new Bodyperscussion staff and sounds.
4. Some pictures with the results.
i HOPE THIS INFORMATION HELPS YOU.

Dear puggbma: Thank you! This is precisely what would serve many of us in writing a body percussion staff with multiple sounds that can be performed by one individual. I use MuseScore often but I am not sure how to save the .drm file. When I click on the link above, I get a page of code and this message: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it." I will experiment with that and let you know what I discover. I appreciate your assistance!

I hoppe you use MuseScore 4.3.2. under Ubuntu. I have tested my Bodypercussion.drm file with this version, but I guess with MuseScore 3.6.3 will work the same way also I think for Windows. To use may Bodypercussion.drm file, you must just download it to for example C:/emp and then select is and make copy and then paste it into the directory your your Musescore is installed . There must exist an unter directory calles Styles . In this directory is where you have to copy de file Bodypercussion.drm. When you use the template i was sending you, and try to enter y note my Bodypercussion table should appear automatically on the bottom of the page. May be it appears the standard drum version von MuseScore, but then you can use the Load.. option which appears near to "editing drum.." and it should appears the the file Bodypercussion.drm als possibie selection. You select this file -> apply-> OK.
Please check if the directory ./Musescore../Styles exists in your system. If not, you should create it.
Loos which directories are definied in your system . You see that under Menu "working" (other someting like that")->Settings -> directories.
I am sorry but I use the german version and do not remember the english Menu names. I hope you get it working. Unfortunatelly I will not be able to use my computer for a week. If you still have problems, I could try to help you after the 1. August.
Wich MuseScore version are you using and under wich OS?.
