Custom dynamics?

• Sep 10, 2024 - 14:50

Is there any way to make custom dynamics? I want to make an f-mf dynamic, meaning the first beat is on forte, but the rest of the bar is in mezzo-forte. I also want a sffffff dynamic, (subito fortississississississmo). Or whatever you would call it.

I would appreciate a response and/or help with this.

There is already sfff in dynamics palette -> more
If You add it into score and double click it, you can select "f" and paste more times to create sffffff

Similar with fmf - add fp, than add mf, double click mf, copy "mf", than double click fp and replace "p" with "mf"

Start by adding an existing dynamic eg sfz and edit it. Click on the dynamic and position the cursor at the beginning where you want to insert the m. Use CTRL+SHIFT+m to insert the character formatted using the special font used for the other characters.

This used to be in the handbook but although it still appears in the contents list it seems to have gone from the main text.

Also see https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/20844 for a rather irritating bug that messes up the spacing in some cases.
