5/8 notes
I want to make 5/8 notes by connecting a minim to a quaver with a slur, but, when I do, both are played separately. Is there a way for me to do that so they'll be played together? Thanks.

I believe what you want is a "tie", not a slur.
The tie is invoked via the icon to the left of the quarter rest, or, as on my version, invoking the plus (+) sign.

Thank you very much. I said slur because I hovered the thing that looked like what I was looking for and it was a slur, but I was really looking for a tie!
I'm just starting to learn music notation, but not in English, so I get confused sometimes.

In the Portuguese handbook they are distinguished as legato and ligadura .
