How can I notate this?
Help please.
The attached fragment is part of a rhythmic device I cannot figure out how to notate.
What I would like to be able to do is make a duplet over the last 1/2 bar, but I want it to include the 1/8th note tied before it. There should be 4 even strikes over these notes. 4 in the time of?????

Unfortunately MuseScore doesn't have a way to input these types of tuplets (where the full duration is not a single note duration).
That said, I was able to create the tuplet in Finale, then import it into MuseScore via MusicXML (see attached).

I don't understand how that's an accurate translation. I see no quarter note (the tied note in my example).
I see that my hand drawn example was not good enough. Perhaps this one will be better.

I assumed you meant 4 eighth notes in the space of 5 normal eighth notes. What do you actually mean by the 4?

for what it is worth... you can at least draw it with "lines". see attached pdf.
But of course it will not playback correctly, but it will look right on the printed part.
I wonder how it sounds. For playback you should be able to come very very very close by using some other notation with eight-notes and sixteenth-notes....

Do you not want 4 eighth notes in the space of 5 normal eighth notes? Did the file I attach give the sound you were looking for? Your tuplet as you have drawn it doesn't make sense. (What does the 4 mean?)

Sorry, I didn't even listen.
The 4 means "4 in the time of 5".
The tuplet stretches over the 5 - 1/8 notes but there are only 4 impulses.

Are all four notes supposed to sound the same length? If so then "tuplet45.mscz" is what you are looking for, right?

For what it is worth, I wouldn't know how to play what is written. if I saw it in print I would assume it was a mistake.

I need to put it in front of players and I can explain what I mean, but I needed some way to notate it. I got it.
