Playback not working (not a sound issue)

• Oct 7, 2015 - 18:18

I opened up one of my scores this morning and tried to play it, but nothing happens. The playback cursor does not even appear. The play panel always reports measure 1 beat 1, no matter what note I select. Everything worked perfectly last night and I don't think there was an update when I started up this morning.

Any ideas on what is going wrong and how I can fix it?

Musescore version: 2.0.2 (Build 3543170)
OS: Ubuntu 14.04

Comments

I should probably add a few things.

1. I have sound issues from time to time that are easily fixed through the synthesizer, mixer, and OS sound manager.

2. The I/O uses Pulse Audio

3. Soundfonts: FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3 and SalamanderGrandPianoV3Retuned.sfz

Well, I have been experimenting throughout the afternoon and finally gave in and restored the factory settings. I noticed that in the command line readout there were many comments about Pipelight (the Ubuntu equivalent of Silverlight for you non linux people). Now that I think about it, there was an update to Pipelight yesterday while I was running musescore. Could that have caused the issue?

So the problem is now occurring every time I open musescore normally or through the terminal, unless I open it with restored settings (mscore -F). The last two times I opened it I did not change any settings, and yet it still would not play sound or even show the play back cursor without using the -F command in the terminal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't worry, I am having patience. I just wanted to keep anyone looking at this updated as to what is going on. At least at this point I have a way to make it work. It might not be ideal, but it is functional.

By the way, I have been using this program for quite a few years now (perhaps 5?) on multiple operating systems and rarely have problems. I recommend MuseScore to others all the time and everyone else who has tried it has loved it. Thank you all for the hard work you put into writing, testing, and troubleshooting this software!

The I/O is set at PulseAudio, which appears to be working fine.

At the moment Musescore refuses to duplicate the problem. Here is the output from the command line for a basic startup just in case you see something in there that could be the problem:
