Muting
I don't know if this is already in Musescore but... Muting instruments, like how a trumpet or a trombone puts a mute in the bell.

It is unfortunate that the only instrument this is implemented on is the trumpet. I would like to do this on any brass or string instrument.

This is the only muted sound defined by the General MIDI standard, so it is the only instrument for which playback would have any chance of working with standard soundfonts. However, you can probably find specialized soundfonts out there that include other muted sounds, and you can use them with MuseScore as described in the Handbook under "Soundfonts", and then use the "Change Instrument" text (from the text palette) instead of ordinary staff text to access those sounds.
BTW, note that General MIDI does define pizzicato sounds for stringed instruments, so no need for special soundfonts to get that effect.

I' no programmer, but there should be a way for MS to overcome this shortcoming from the rest of the the world. :)
