Chant lyrics
In simple chant there are frequently several words on one pitch. How do I keep the program from moving on to the next note for each word? I can use whole notes and rests to give room on the line but it would be nice to be able to click on a note and then add all the words that are sung on that pitch.

See lyrics . on windows use ctrl+ space to insert a space without going to the next measure.
Ctrl-space puts a space within a single lyric "syllable", which would mostly have the effect you want - except the line of lyrics would be centered under the note by default, and the commands to alter text properties of lyrics don't work properly. At least, not in 1.0.
Hitting the TAB key rather than the space bar (this is on a Mac, mind you) works for me.

On a Mac you should use ⌥+Space as is described in the handbook under https://musescore.org/en/handbook/lyrics#special-characters
Did you realize you've resurrected a 6 year old post? MuseScore itself has changed significantly in the meantime.
