MuseScore completely freezes for hours after a couple minutes of work.

I'm working on a score for Orchestra, Synths and Band. I'm at approximately 800 bars of music and it just becomes impossible to work with Musescore anymore. It already takes up or more than 30 minutes to load the Score and then I can work for a minute or two and than Musescore completely freezes for hours. It can't be my computer (8Core Intel Xeon and that should be more than enough). Is it maybe that the code of Musescore can't handle that much? Or something else entirely?
Anyone else who had similar problems?

Currently, it is true that MuseScore does not scale well for extremely larger scores. Every single edit requires a complete re-layout of the entire score. This is something being addressed for the next major release of MuseScore, but that is still a long ways off. Meanwhile, the standard way people deal with this now is to break up your scores into sections - eg, different movements - each in its own file.

Well, it could be your computer if you were short of memory but that's probably not the reason. How big is the file, though? I'm sure I remember someone reporting a file that was way bigger than expected and it turned out to be corrupt with several hundred thousand bogus slurs or other objects, each one of which gets redrawn as you make changes to the score. Better to save in smaller chunks anyway and also to back up those files instead of putting all your eggs in one basket.

My computer has 12 GB Ram and the actual Logic Pro Session (about 30 mins and over 100 Tracks with about 10 GB of audio files) works fine. The file is 5,6 MB which seems reasonable considering the length and the amount of instruments. But yea, I'll split the score into different parts. It's impossible to work on it otherwise.
I actually back up all the time and I already had to reload a back up file previously because of the same reason (I thought the file was corrupt because Musescore crashed) and it worked fine until I redid all the lost changes I made.
