Why does it constantly add rests in automatically?

Does anyone else have this problem? How do you delete them?

I just have to move them out of the way after each note I enter until I have a whole pile of them.

I would rather just enter in the rests I need when I need one... why does it do that? (I'm not talking about the bar rests that are there when you first start writing on a blank document.)

Don't move the rests, enter notes and they will disappear. Think of the rests as placeholders that you can confirm by entering a rest (or changing the length of the rest). They are necessary to make a full measure.
