Hi,
thanks for trying to help, but reducing the volume has no effect. The distortion is being created by Musescore. In the synthesiser panel there are no master effects specified. It used to be OK a few weeks ago ,but now none of my scores play properly and I have changed nothing in the mean time.
I wonder whether there has been some form of timeout on having the basic free version.

There is no non-free version.
