Announcing "Mastering MuseScore: Complete Online Course"

• Sep 25, 2018 - 20:43

Hello! Most of you reading this probably recognize my name as a frequent (!) contributor here on the forums, and perhaps also as one of the developers of MuseScore and the author of the comprehensive guide Mastering MuseScore.

A while ago here on the forum I announced my position as Director of Education for MuseScore and the launch of my web site Mastering MuseScore Online. I mentioned then that there were big plans to expand on this, and today I want to tell you about the latest major addition.

I have spent better part of the past year planning and developing an online course, and I am excited to tell you it is now available as Mastering MuseScore: Complete Online Course. The course follows the same general outline as my book but in video format. This allows me to demonstrate each feature of MuseScore in action, and we are able to offer the course at a lower price than the physical book as well. The result is the most clear and thorough course of its kind. From the first introductory sections designed to get you started in minutes, to advanced topics like score style settings, page layout, and program customization, there are over a hundred individual lessons, with more than nine hours of video in all. You can proceed through it all in order or pick and choose what interests you. The course is thus well-suited for beginners as well as more experienced users looking to increase their skills.

Meanwhile, I am continuing to develop more free tutorials and other content for my site, including the weekly MuseScore Café series of informal live interactive chat sessions via streaming video. The online course will be the subject of this week’s Café - Wednesday at 12:30 PM Eastern time, 4:30 PM GMT. Tune in and have a chance at winning free enrollment (or reimbursement if you go ahead and enroll now)!

Looking toward the future, some of the next steps for me as Director of Education include outreach to schools to better support faculty and students in their use of MuseScore, and eventually a series of live workshops. I welcome your feedback on ways I can better serve the MuseScore community in this capacity!

Thanks for the kind words! FWIW, we're still working on the overall strategy regarding promotion, so it might be a little while before we update the site. But the course is available now, I figured there was no reason not let folks here know!
