Muziekinstrument toevoegen

• Jan 18, 2019 - 14:16

Beste,

Pardon my switch to English, but I fear the Dutch translation would become very bad if I used Google for this. I know many readers read English and there are many kind people here who will translate if needed for others if needed.

To change the instruments.xml file, you should create a new new file with only the new instruments definitions. The problem is that I don't understand it enough to explain it.

The definition for the tubas for example is currently currently include

           <Instrument id="tuba">

I will continue this in my next post so I can read this one.

Things that I understand:

F clef is what I call the Bass clef
aPitchRange is Amateur pitch range
pPitchRange is Professional pitch range

Most everything else either I don't understand or is obvious enough that I don't think I need to explain it except that the genres listed are the instrument categories in the dropdown above the instrument names.

One thing I did find is the Eb Tuba bass clef is in this short list. You can search for "Tuba" (or whatever it might be called in Dutch) in the search box below the list of available instruments that contain those letters in their names. This will always search in all instruments and show you which instruments are already defined.

Hi, perhaps it would be a good suggestion to include these instruments in the program by default?
Really long time ago I had discussion with JoJo and Marc on instruments and templates (for v2.1 at that time), so I know it can be done.

In the instrument xml you find an example of the two different versions for the Eb Tuba.

The key in this difference is the Eb Tuba (Treble Clef) contains the lines regarding the transposingClef and details for the transposition (transposeDiatonic + transposeChromatic).

Henk,
This suggestion would be really useful in Europe. Maybe add in Templates> Band and Percussion> Concert Band (Europe). This extra template would then largely be the same as the standard Concert Band except for the choice in Bass instruments. If you have the opportunity to do that (in relation with jojo and Marc) in a next update of the 3.01.20439 version.
In that way the Bas Tuba Eb & Bb in BC would be correctly displayed and whole Europe happy!

In reply to by mike320

I did the suggestion from Henk and made it ( see attachment) according my needs.
If I was familiar and involved in the making process of an update I should doe an European version as a Concert Band (Europe) Template besides next the present template.
Mike, if you know a programmer there, tickle him for my idea :).
(On the other hand, I do not understand all of your mailings about the ICT world. I am just an avid user).

I'm only an avid user also. If there is nothing in the issue tracker it will never be fixed unless a programmer happens to look at the Dutch forum for some reason and discovers this conversation and then want to fix the issue himself. This is a very unlikely scenario.

Since the template is in a PDF it cannot be incorporated into the program. If a European Brass Band template would suffice, the attach the .mscz file to a suggestion for use as a template for others to use. This will only take a few seconds for anyone to fix and I suspect it would be included in version 3.0.1.

I think two suggestions would be in order in that case. One suggestion would be to fix the Tuba definitions, the other would be to add the Template. Since they are related, but different, they would need their own issues.

One final thing, don't worry about your English, it's fine in these conversations. There are very few programmers who speak English at home. It is only a common language to use in the issue tracker.

In reply to by Theo Moors

I'm not sure which direction the transposition goes on an Eb tuba, which is part of the reason I wanted someone else to propose it. Another reason is that my issues don't always end up being addressed quickly because the programmers are too used to me. I have a lot of issues entered that are quite legitimate.

One other question about the template. Do Europeans really have Bass Saxophones commonly in their bands? This is rare in the US.

One final comment. It seems the translators need to do a little work on the Dutch translation because sometimes it says Saxophone and others it says saxofon for example.
