How do I change instruments & keep the written score; in other words, I have something written for a B-flat bass clarinet & I want to hear what it sounds like with a regular bass clarinet (or any other instrument).

A B-flat bass clarinet is a regular bass clarinet, but that's a side note. If you want a different sound there are two things you can do:

Right click the staff, chose staff/part properties and change to another instrument
Open the mixer (F10) and change the sound assigned to the instrument. You can then decide if you want to do option 1 so the sound and score will match.

Thanks; tried no. 1 above; could get as far as making the change but could find no way to apply the changes. Tried different instruments (baritone sax, A bass clarinet, etc) but could not apply the changes. What am I missing?

Thanks, figured it out. Sometimes the computer won't show all of a page. Selecting the new instrument and pressing enter works if there is no apply or OK button on the page.

Version 3 really needs to manage window sizes better.
