Using Ctrl + K allows you to enter the "name" of the chord (i.e., chord symbol). MuseScore does not automatically assign it based on the notes you have entered. You must know the name of the chord and enter it yourself.
Also, playback of the chords (e.g., as accompaniment) is not supported.

Press ctrl and k. Enter the chord in the box that appears: example - Gm7. press space bar, box will leave that chord and move to the next possibility, Enter co7 or c7 or c7 alt or ......? Continue.
