MIDI keyboard note input with MS3 not working under Linux.

• Sep 10, 2019 - 12:28

Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu Studio with KXStudio on top (Linux) and route everything through Jack.

I use/try the latest beta version, MS 3.3.0 and now 3.2.3.

(OS: Ubuntu 18.10, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.2.3+dfsg1-1~ppa1810+1 (Ubuntu cosmic/amd64), MuseScore build number not set, revision: d2d863f, OS: Ubuntu 18.10, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.3.0., revision: f94c273)

Note input by MIDI keyboard is not working, where, with the same settings, it works totally fine in MS2.

Not any setting in I/O works for keyboard note input in MS3. It just does not do anything.

This prevents me from using MS3, because I use keyboard note input a lot and I am very much used to that in my workflow; I can't do without any more.

I need MS3, because some of the functionality I need, which is not there in MS2; a new (phrasing) plugin only works with MS3.

So, please help me out.

Kind regards,

Comments

  • Make sure MS2 is closed when trying note input over MIDI with MS3.
  • Try the "rescan audio devices" button (or whatever it's called)

Workaround:
Enter notes with MIDI in MS2, then open/import score into MS3 for editing and playback performance.

I tried the first point and it does not make any difference. Besides, I can have everything open, Musescore2, GrandOrgue, whatever, and it still plays (because everything is routed through Jack it does not exclusively claim the sound system, which is a big advantage).
2nd point, I also did. Does not make any difference either. It just does not work.

Workaround: Yeh, I could do that, temporarily. Not ideal... not what I want of course, eventually. I don't see why everything works fine in MS2 and then it does not work in MS3. Shouldn't. be. Can't one look it up and see how that was set in MS2 and apply that to MS3?
