Disco Beat
Don't laugh, but if I wanted to put a disco beat to a score, anybody have a suggestion as to what instrument or combination of instruments would make the bass "thump-thump-thump" (boom-box) sound. I've tried several but nothing sounds right. Perhaps the software was not designed to score that kind of music.

The software is designed to *notate* the music. So if you can figure out notes and rhythms you want, it's doing what it can. To get the playback closer to what you might want to hear, use the Mixer to try different sounds for the bass part, and also try different soundfonts (see Soundfont ).
If you need drum rhythms such as a disco beat for a score, they are available (requires some searching).

MuseScore is a great tool for writing scores. From what you wrote, I suppose you are looking for a tool to compose and play music, instead. In my opinion you could find out that a sequencer software that can manage VST and audio recording is a much better solution. Once you have composed your track and maybe recorded it in its final version, you could go back to MuseScore and print sheet music of your song - that's where MuseScore gives its best.
P.S. Would you use a screwdriver to wash the floor?
