Windows 7 vs Windows 10
Dear Musescore,
I have written many songs using Musescore 1.1 on two windows 7 computers over the course of several years. It works great. Thank you. I composed on one of the computers and played back the songs to my music ministry band at rehearsals with the other computer. Unfortunately, both computers died last week. I had all of the data on the composition computer put onto a brand new Windows 10 computer and had a new hard drive and Windows 7 installed into the old composition computer but none of the original data put on the old composition computer. From a flash drive, I loaded my songs and Musescore 1.1 onto the old composition computer. When I opened a Musescore song on the composition computer, the computer asked me what app to use to run the song. I selected the Musescore file and the song immediately re-opened and it played just fine! When I opened a Musescore song on the Windows 10 computer, the computer asked me what app to use to run the song. I selected the Musescore file and the song immediately re-opened but none of the buttons functioned and I could not play the song. Do you have any idea why the buttons do not function in the song on the Windows 10 computer?

You mean that on your Windows 10 machine playback of MuseScore 1.1 doesn't work?
Why MuseScore 1.1 and not at least 1.3, the last of the 1.x series?

Yes. Musescore 1.1 works fine on the Windows 7 computer but the buttons (play, go to the beginning, etc) are all gray and do not function on the Windows 10 computer.
I have been using Musescore 1.1 because it worked so well for me. I saw no need to down load anything newer. Why rock the boat?

Because 1.3 contains quite a ferw bug fixes vs 1.1 and IIRC also is needed as an intermediate step for scores to open in MuseScore 2 (and 3). Otherwise it is fully compatible to 1.1, so no reason not to update.

Dear Jojo,
I deleted Musescore 1.1 from my computer and down loaded the latest Musescore to my computer and opened a song and selected Musescore 3 when asked what app to use to open the song. The song opened and the buttons depressed when I clicked on them but the song did not play. Please play the attached song on the latest Musescore and see if it plays. Thanks

Well, I never told you to delete MuseScore 1.1 but recommended to update that to 1.3 and then install and use MuseScore 3 in parallel.
Whatever, that score plays back just fine for me, MuseScore 3.2.3 on Windows 10, so something is wrong about your MuseScore and/or computer setup (probably the latter, as MuseScore 1.1 also didn't play back). Please check https://musescore.org/en/node/96811

Dear Jojo,
I decided to delete Musescore 1.1 so that when I opened a Musescore song, the computer would have to ask me what app to use to open it and I would select Musescore 3. I thought this would be any easy way to get the songs to play and get me the latest version of the program. Not so. I will use the instructions in your latest link to get my songs to play. Sorry for not following your original instructions.

Whatever MuseScore version gets installed last, it'll grab and register itself for the various extensions (AKA file formats) MuseScore supports, so there would not be any question of the Oberating system whicvh appllication to use for e.g. an mscz file, Windows would just fire up the MuseScore version you installed last.
To open an mscz file woth another version or MuseScore, the easiest way is to start that MuseScore version and use File > Open to open a score, another is to right-click the mscz file and then use "Open with".
I'd recommend you to install MuseScore 1.3 first, then MuseScore 2.3.2 (if you never used MuseScore 2 before, you can skip this), then MuseScore 3.2.3. All 3 version can be installed and running on the same computer and at the same time if need be.
And all scores are upwards compatible, i.e. MuseScore 3 can read MuseScore 2 and 1 scores, MuseScorte 2 can read MuseScore 1 scores, but not dowwards compatible, ie. MuseScore 1 can't read MuseScore 2 or 3 scores, MuseScore 2 can't read MuseScore 3 scores. If you ever need that, export as MusicXML in the higher version and import that in the lower.
