Triplets with quarter notes
When I try to put 3 quarter notes in a triplet, it tries to turn the second and third one into two slurred 8th notes screwing up the rhythm, is there any way to get around this?

May be, you created a quarter note triplet but you have to create a half note triplet.

Ah I see now, thank you for help.
For triplets you must start by the lenght your triplet will get. So, if you want triplet of quater notes, the lenght is 2 times, so you must start on something of 2 times : a rest or a note. You must make appear this lenght (for exemple, if you start with a whole rest of 4 times, click on it and press 6 , you get 2 half rests of 2 times, click the first) when you have your lenght of 2 times, tape CTRL+3 and you have your triplet of 3 quater notes.
