local time signature problem: how to cut and paste notes
Using version 3.2.32.7635. My score has two instruments: the top instrument has 6/8 time signature, the bottom instrument has 8/4 time signature (local). The barlines align. I enter some notes into the 8/4 instrument’s staff, and that works fine. But when I try to select a note or a measure in the 8/4 instrument’s staff and press CTRL-C, MuseScore gives me this pop-over:
“Please select the complete tuplet/tremolo and retry the command.”
What does this mean? How do I get CTRL-C and CTLR-V to cut and paste notes in the 8/4 instrument’s staff?

You cannot copy and paste to or from a local time signature. MuseScore considers these to be tuplets internally in the program and gives this terrible, confusing error message if you try it.

Attached is a sample of what I want to accomplish. The lower staff has a local time signature of 8/4. Can you suggest an alternative method to notate this way, without using local time signatures?

Use 6/8 as the global time signature. In the bottom staff, right click the time signature, select Time signature properties and make it display 8/4. You can then create two dotted 1/4 rests select the rests and use Add->Tuplets->Other and set the tuplet to 8/3 and set both the number and bracket to none and click OK. You can then fill the tuplets with notes, copy and paste the tuplets and so forth. Repitch note input mode works fine in these tuplets as well if you only want to change the chords.

One thing more: it appears to me the pasted copy of the whole-note tuplet does not adopt the “number: none” and “bracket: none” qualities. True, I can “Add --> Tuple --> Other…” to set it, but I will have to do this on every pasted copied note in the whole song. Tedious. Is there something like a selection function that will allow me to set the “number: none” and “bracket: none” qualities of all the whole-note tuplets in one fell swoop?

You can select all of the tuplet brackets you want to hide using one of two techniques.
If every bracket in the score is to be hidden, right click a bracket and choose Select>All similar items...
Select a series of measures and right click a bracket and choose Select>All similar elements in range selection...
...In either case, open the inspector (F8) and change both Number and Bracket to none for the tuplets.

FYI -- I think I see see another way to hide the tuplet's number and bracket: in the inspector for the tuplets, uncheck the Visible box.

That hides it and allows you to see the "invisible" brackets if you have Show invisible turned on in the view menu.
