A section tacet in one instrument

• Jan 2, 2020 - 21:31

Is it possible to hide an empty section of an instrument in the parts?
I would like to have a text frame with the word "Tacet" instead of the empty score in soprano in Kyrie.

Add a normal note-anchored line over the whole section for that part. Make it invisible in the main score.
Change line height (at least 4sp, but go a bit higher for ease of use; like 10sp) and disable automatic placement. Then position it on top of the staff and change the color to white.

Add Tacet as staff text to the first measure. Mark it invisible in the main score.
Make sure the stacking order value of it is higher than that of the line, so it gets placed on top of it.

If I attempt to add a note-anchored line to a single note, nothing happens.
If I attempt to add a note-anchored line to several notes, musescore crashes.

I like the idea, understand its principle, but one would wish for a less awkward way of doing it. Although I understand musescore was intended for orchestral music first of all.

Is there a way of placing white frame as a layer over the score and the text frame on the top? I know this is rather rough, but straightforward.

Well, with all your help I have done it.

I sacrificed the "Soprano" and "S." It actually looks better now. But I didn't have to.

The trick with a thick white line worked well, only it had to be inserted from the palette as musescore crashed when I tried to add it through the menu Add>...

On the other hand, it would be nice to be able to control visibility of each instance of the element "Instrument" without a patch.

Making the score invisible didn't work. The staff lines remained visible, which I discovered only when I printed it. I have no idea how to get rid of them, but I assume it does not matter.

Thank you all very, very much.
