How to prevent bar corruption?

• Jan 23, 2020 - 15:17

I've been working on a woodwind ensemble arrangement of a piece for a while now, and for the past few days upon opening the score I am notified that some bars are corrupt. A copy of the said score is attached to this post. Fixing the corrupted bars is easy enough, but it worries me that at some point the corruption will render my score unusable. I have since been saving multiple copies of my work, but I really do wish to find a way to prevent corruption entirely.

I've noticed that corrupted bars are always present in the flute part, and always where I have a dotted quaver at the start of the bar. This rhythm is not unique to the flute, and corruption doesn't occur every time the flute plays this rhythm, but it has been a consistent pattern.

I would really appreciate any help with this. I fear that my laptop may be a contributing factor, as it isn't particularly good, but I've never experienced an issue like this before.

Thank you in advance!

I wasn't able to recreate the corrupted files myself using the methods outlined, but opening the files posted did display a very similar error message.

What concerns me is that the corruption in my file seems a lot more extreme, as the corrupted time signatures seem to be off by semiquavers, resulting in 25/16 or 28/16. I also cannot work out why it is only the flute part that is corrupt, as I don't think I have treated it differently, especially considering a few instruments have parts that double the flute. The dotted quaver certainly seems to be related to the issue somehow,

If we knew what caused all corruptions and know the ways to prevent them, the software would be fixed and the corruptions would never occur..

Oh the sweet dreams
