Sound Fonts

With updates to MuseScore I lost half of the sound fonts, all the expression fonts. How do I get them back?

If you've added the soundfonts to your user folder as advised by default, then updates do not remove them. So first go into the Synthesizer and see if they're already present in the Add option list.

What version did you update from? MuseScore 2 and 3 maintain separate settings, so if you were previously using a 2.x release, you will have to re-add them in MuseScore 3. That will also mean either copying the soundfonts from MuseScore2/Soundfonts to MuseScore3/Soundfonts, or else going to Edit / Preferences / General in MuseScore 3 and telling it to look where the soundfonts actually are (perhaps best to move them somewhere neutral).

But it still isn't clear where you installed them in the first - as mentioned, you really need to put them in your own Soundfonts folder, not in the program installation folder. If you did the latter, it's not unusual they'd possibly be lost on an update, so you'd have to re-download them and this time put them in the proper user folder MuseScore3/Soundfonts under your own home/documents folder, not the program installation folder).

I have MuseScore3. I reloaded MuseScore-General.sf3 from an older score, and made it the default font in synthesizer. Now all the fonts work. But I cannot figure how to move MuseScore-General.sf3 to the fonts folder in documents. I see it in the synthesizer, so it is loaded into MuseScore3, but cannot figure out how to save it elsewhere. Incidentally, in preferences I see, bottom left, a link to the fonts folder, but when I click on it, I do not see anything. I do have two other fonts in the folder.

MuseScore General is already the default soundfont in MuseScore 3; you should not need to do anything special to use it. It comes installed, and is found in Musecore's own installations folders - the ones we are saying you shouldn't be messing with. So just leave it where it is. If there are other soundfonts you want to use, just make sure they are in the folder listed in Preferences.
