Latency issues with a new laptop

Hey, I'm a new user and I've been very pleased with Musescore. I've recently switched from using it with a MacBook to a Windows computer. I recall that when I had first started using Musescore with my MacBook I had some issues with latency between MIDI keyboard input and playback -- when I played a note on the keyboard it would play again maybe a quarter of a second later -- and they somehow got fixed. Now I'm having the same problem with my new Windows laptop. I know it won't affect my scores, I just find it annoying and I think it's fixable; I just can't remember how. I realize this may also be a setting I need to change with the laptop itself. If anyone has had a similar experience and has been able to fix it that would be great. Thanks!
