files missing & crashing

• Feb 28, 2016 - 18:20

I have been getting consistent hang-ups while trying to change time sig this morning, so I decided to look at file names since they seemed strange. I observed:

open recent files> shows a name that does not exist in file system

file sys (as shown by Explorer) has a .mscz that does not show in "open recent files"

I am not speaking of names ending in commas. These are the file (files) whose time sig I have been trying to change. The "grand-daddy" of these files came from the online pdf conversion.

Any ideas as to how I got to this situation and what to do now?

Additional info:
I cleared the "open recent", shut down and started up, and
file>open ... it pointed to my downloads folder and NOT the folder specified in preferences for scores, how come?

BTW the downloads folder does contain 1 of the 2 mscz files I refer to above. The other one is in the "scores" folder as specified in prefs.

What's going on?

EDIT: Ooops, sorry, didn't see the resposne above before posting mine. "FIle / Open" normally remembers the most recently used folder (so do the other "File" dialogs), so apparently you did try to open a file fromt he "Downloads" folder recently.

Presumably the odd files in the recent list were auto-save files left over from a crash; hard to say. What are the names? If they bother you, you can clear the recent files list using the command at the bottom of the File / Open Recent menu, btu they should be harmless, so you don't *have* to do anything.

As for the crash itself, there is one know source of crashes involving time signatures, and that is if you try to change time signatures on a page after the first via a specific series of actions (select a rest then double click time signature in palette). But files that came about through PDF conversion are not unlikely to just be corrupt, and that could be the cause of the crashes.
