Bummer! You have to hold down the dot while hitting the note on the Midi keyboard!
I'd like to hit the note, then the dot, but that doesn't work...

"While"? Why not "before"? As in, hit dot, *then* hit the MIDI key? That's the way all other durations are entered, with or without MIDI. Or are you saying that this doesn't work for MIDI? If so, that's a bug. But it certainly works for regular keyboard (ie, not MIDI) entry.

OK, right you are, before is OK.
But not after (which is what I'm used to, from Finale)
