MIDI keyboard sends note but does not shift the note cursor to next beat.

• Mar 12, 2016 - 05:57

The first note from the MIDI keyboard is placed correctly on the stave and it sounds correctly. Inputting subsequent notes has them piling up on the first one at the correct pitch position on the stave but at the same beat position. The note cursor does not advance to the next beat. The notes sound correctly.

This behaviour does not occur when using the computer keyboard to input notes; everything works correctly.

I am using Musescore ver 1.3 rev No 5702, on Linux Lite 2.8 which is based on Ubuntu LTS. The software was pulled from the Ubuntu 14.04 repositories. I am trying Lite as I want this computer to be dedicated to Musescore. The MIDI cable is connected to the computer sound card via the joystick/MIDI 15-pin D-connector. The problems occurs whether the integrated sound chip (AC97) is used, or a SoundBlaster Live card is used.

Help! The system works well when using the computer keyboard, but I really want to use the MIDI keyboard.

That version of MuseScore is pretty ancient. First step would be to update to a more recent version version if you can - you might need to add a particualr PPA or something. I'm not familiar with that particular version of Linux so I can't tell you the details, but MsueScore 2.0.2 should be available for Ubuntu LTS; see the Downloads link in menu at right.

Thanks for the rapid reply. I downloaded 2.0.2 on another machine and it worked perfectly. I haven't been able to do this easily in the past because of a slow dial-up. Our connection is a little faster so I was able to go to the PPA for the current machine (based on Ubuntu 14.04) and install ver 2.0.2. Excellent result and thank you once again.
