J. Dowland, Lachrymae (1605)
Attached is an edition of John Dowland, Lachrymae, according to the first edition (London, Windet 1605).
There are already many editions of this work. But, as in our consort of viols we needed to re-check several details of score, I decided to make a new edition, freely available.
It is in two versions, differing only in the clefs of the intermediate voices (altus, tenor and quintus): alto clef or treble clef ottava bassa ("_g8" suffix in file names).
The complete work has been split in two separate mscx files, for better handling. The title page, contents and apparatus, being only text, make another separate file, written originally with OpenOffice and available as PDF; I suggest to get it too, as it contains useful details on the edition itself.
Even if it has been made with viol consort in mind, I used brasses for playback, as soundfont brasses are usually better than strings.
Separate parts will follow.
Enjoy!
