New Note Louder than Old

• Apr 15, 2011 - 18:46

I have been using 9.6 and now 1.0 for about 6 months. Sometimes I will be using an old midi file to create my score. I will then correct the score, create the menu and add the Lyrics. The midi file saves time. All this works great, and I am happy with the resulting score. The only problem that I am having, is that when I have Dotted Notes in the tune, I have been deleting the tied notes from the midi input and replacing them with a dotted note. If I play the Tune after the dotted notes are fixed, the tune will play at one volume and the new notes will be louder.

I am using PC with windows 7, and currently running musescore V 1.0.

Attached is my latest tune. (not quite done yet)

When MuseScore imports the midi, it reads the velocity (loudness) of each notes. MIDI does not contain dynamic markings but each note has an associated value. When you enter a new note, the note is entered with the default velocity of MuseScore. You can reset all the velocities with right click on a note -> Select all similar. Right click on a note -> note properties -> Velocity -> Auto. You can then add dynamic markings to instruct the musician that will use the score (he doesn't read MIDI velocity :) )

Another thing is that after adding dynamic markings, they do not always work consistantly the first time. But save the file and then select Reload from the file menu. This will usually solve these (and other) problems.
