Trouble with Multiple Voices

• Apr 24, 2011 - 05:40

Hello, I'm fairly new to MuseScore, and I'm having trouble with composing two voices in the same staff. I have read just about every post on this forum about voices-related problems (including the section of the Handbook that covers Voices), and I am still having trouble.

What happens is I compose my Voice 1 line, then, making sure I am still in notation-mode, I select Voice 2. A green bar appears before the first beat in the measure, and sometimes I am able to compose in Voice 2 for the first beat, but if I try to go beyond that first beat, it switches back to Voice 1. Sometimes the "note cursor" will snap to only rests in Voice 2.

Am I missing something, or is this a glitch? My harmonies are very boring without being able to split sections, so I would very much like to remedy this problem! ;)

I forgot to mention that when I "go beyond the first beat," and it switches back to Voice 1, when I re-select Voice 2, I am returned back to the first beat. Thus the cycle.

Hm. That didn't work for me, but I managed to work around the problem somewhat. Most of the parts where I desired to split sections happened on the first beat, conveniently! :) I'm not really sure how I into this problem, otherwise I would tell you how. Thank you, anyway!

After reading your posts again, I think there is a misunderstanding. If you want the second voice to start on beat 2, you need to enter a rest on beat 1 in the second voice. Use the 0 key on your computer keyboard, then the cursor will move to beat 2 and you can enter more music. Don't use the arrow key to move on beat 2 or indeed MuseScore will switch back to voice 1.
