Slurred, mushy noise.
At first, Musescore ran fine. Now, for some reason, it sounds very mushy and slurred. the notes are blobbed together (for lack of a better term). I don't know what is up. Anyone have any ideas?

Which version of MuseScore are you using? On which operating system (windows mac linux) ?
Is this only the sound or the graphics as well ? Do you have this behavior with any score ? If not, can you attach the broken score?
I am certain I am using 1.0. All scores sound mushy, and I am on a windows 7. There are no other problems with the sound on the computer. The sound issues are specifically musescore.

Do you use the default soundfont or another one? Is this only with a given instrument ? or piano is ok ? Does promenade, the demo score sounds like this : http://soundcloud.com/lasconic/e-2

I don't know. lol.
All I know is that the sounds are the same, but they're mushy and ringy sounding.

Check the reverb in Display -> Synthesizer

The sounds sound the same as originally and promenade sounds the same. But, instead of the notes being distinct from one another, the notes seem to ring and overlap sometimes. it doesn't really overlap but the ringing gives that feel. Know what I am saying?
EDIT: actually, the piano is unaltered, the other sounds are ringy
Running Linux Mint11, (64 bit machine). Good CD and webcam audio.
MSc v1.0. No other fonts loaded.
I now have the similar problem. Mushy noise which gets louder and louder. No control.
It was working sweetly. Haven't changed anything. I think it appeared some time after I upgraded to1.0. Have uninstalled MSc and have done a fresh install. Same. (May try previous version)
Now and again MSc works, but has problems.....
i) Vertical cursor only moves when the mouse is jiggled.
ii) No (box) staging thro' sections of music. None.
iii) I have always used OUTREC to capture audio. Now instead of having a recording 20 - 30Mb in size I only get 40 - 50b.
Will try running 1.0 on a 32bit machine.
Have searched all the variables looking for something odd. Nothing.
A mystery.

I have loaded MSc1.0 into a 32bit machine running linux Ubuntu 11.04
After a few hours good session, a problem appeared. Sounds like max reverb and max chorus together. Can't control either. Ringing gets louder until sound distorts.
All pieces have the same problem.

Are you creating the pieces from scratch or you open MIDI files?
I added some effects (rain, thunder, howling winds) to a song I wrote using the General User soundfont. When I saved it as a .wav file and played it on Itunes, the sound had slurred together and gradually gotten louder and louder. I saved it as a .midi and the slurring was gone, but the quality was horrible. I've had the problem before when using playback with the software, but if I just reloaded the soundfont it would go back to normal. Still, I would really like to know how to fix my song :)

The "quality" of a MIDI is entirely dependent on the program you play it back with. If you play it back with a program that uses the same soundfont that MuseScore uses, then it should sound the same. What program were you using?
As for the quality of the WAV file, that sound be identicial to how it sounds when played from within MuseScore. If you have a score that plays back different for you than how it sounds as a WVA., it would help if you posted the score and said what all your Synthesizer settings were so others could try to reproduce it. Sounds like you simply had reverb turned up too high, but if so, it should have played back that way in MuseScore too.

Hmm... I came back about an hour later and and tried saving as a WAV again, and it worked. I did adjust the reverb, but I don't know if that's what fixed it. Thanks though! I probably just messed it up myself. Thanks!
