Playing "over" harmony progression

Hi,

Is it possible to "noodle" a melody over a previously entered chord progression whilst in playback?

For example, I would like to enter a chord progression via midi and then whilst that is playing back in loop mode try different melodies over the top?

At the moment only the chords sound and not the simulated voice soundfont
