Broken Bass Clarinet Playback

• May 20, 2016 - 15:10

I have found that low notes on bass clarinet playback are late and barely audible. If the notes are sustained it's okay, it sounds just a bit late. Once the notes get faster, their lateness interferes with them playing. In one of my scores, I have two 16th note chromatic runs, one at 164bpm and one at 192bpm. The 164bpm run goes from a middle E to a dotted half note low E. The notes to about the A are very quiet, beyond that they are completely inaudible until the held E, which comes out at full blast. The 192bpm run goes from a low A to a held middle A. As it goes up, the notes become more audible. Bringing them up the octave doesn't have the same problem. Copy and pasting these runs into bari sax, tuba, or contrabassoon parts in the same octaves does not have the same problem.
