Select bar

• Jun 30, 2011 - 13:22

Hi,

This is probably a very daft question, but...

Is there a quick way to select a bar in which a note is already selected? Preferably a keyboard shortcut? For instance, I finish inputting a melody, but I want to edit the whole bar, is there are shortcut I could use to select the bar I finished in?

Also, is there a way to have the key signature and time signature selection dialogs appear as toolbars within the main application instead? The dialogs steal focus and I'm always forgetting to click back on the main window before I starting playing music in from my keyboard again!

To select a bar you can :

  • Click on a empty part of the bar
  • Select the first notehead, shift + click to the last notehead
  • Select the first notehead, shift + right arrow to the last notehead

To select the timesig and keysig, you might not need the dialog but you can use the palette (Display -> palette) instead.

Fubrite,

Since you asked for a keyboard shortcut, the only way I can think of is to do:
Ctl-left arrow followed by Ctl-shift-right arrow. This selects the whole bar.
Rather cumbersome compared to clicking on the bar!

It would be good to have a keyboard shortcut. When I looked at the
Edit > Preferences > Shortcuts I could not see a function "Select Bar".
This would be a useful addition.

Thanks to both of you for the info.

I'll put a request into feature requests for the Select Bar shortcut as it sounds like it might be useful to several people!
